- Head to Insert
- Select Equation from the list that appears.
- In the equation box, type \underline and hit the spacebar. You will notice that a single line has been created.
- Repeat the process. Type \underline again and hit the spacebar.
Thatās it! A double horizontal line has been created. You can now type any text over the double line in Google Docs.
How To Double underline text using the Drawing Tool
- Place the cursor after the text
- Head to Insert.
- From the menu that appears, select Drawing > +New
- A new window will open up. Select the line icon and choose the line shape from the list.
- Draw a line and click Save and Close button to return back to your document.
- You notice that a straight line has been inserted in your document just below the text where you placed your cursor. But we want a double line. To achieve one, read on.
- Click the line. Select the three-dot icon/ellipsis and select Size & rotation.
- The image option and settings menu will be displayed on the sidebar. Adjust the width to reduce the lineās size.
- Select the line and click the Edit option. The drawing window will appear again.
- Copy and Paste the line so that they appear double. You can right-click the Action button to bring up the copy and paste options on a menu or simply use Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V.Click Save and Close button to return to your document.
- Select the line and choose the behind text option to place the line behind your text.
- Click the line and select all image options. A menu with image settings will appear in the sidebar. To adjust the space between the lines click Position then select either Move with text or Fix position on page options to fix the position of the line. You can as well edit the Y axis to adjust the line.
- Congrats! You have now created a double underline in Google Docs and can place it under any text you wish.
